Role: K-8 Speech-Language Pathologist
Setting: Small, hands-on special needs school environment
Goal: Maximize student communication competence, functional language, and academic integration.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment and Planning
- Conduct comprehensive formal and informal evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and literacy skills.
- Design data-driven, evidence-based Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Establish functional, measurable communication goals tailored to each student.
Therapy Delivery
- Provide direct individual and small-group therapy sessions customized to students.
- Implement Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems and assistive technologies for non-verbal or severely speech-impaired students.
- Address articulation, phonology, fluency (stuttering), and social pragmatic language delays.
Collaboration and Hands-On Support
- Work directly inside a small-school framework to coordinate closely with special education teachers.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings and IEP conferences.
- Train parents and classroom staff on carryover strategies to use communication tools throughout the daily routine.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Valid state licensure and Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (or local governing equivalent).
- Experience or specialized training in K-8 special needs, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and AAC implementation.
