Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Lincoln Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to support Pre-K students with communication disorders within the school setting.

You will assess, plan, and provide evidence-based interventions, collaborate with EC teams, teachers, and families, and ensure compliance with NC Licensure and ASHA standards. This is a ten-month scheduler with a state salary schedule.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
  • Must be licensed by the NC Board of Examiners for SLPs and Audiologists.
  • Must hold or be eligible for NC PEL in SLP and ASHA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive speech-language services to Pre-K students.
  • Collaborate with EC teams, teachers, and families.
  • Maintain records and submit required reports quarterly.
  • Conduct screenings and formal/informal assessments as needed.
  • Adhere to NC standards and ethics in service delivery.

Job Description

Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist Salary Schedule: State Salary Schedule; in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule. CHCCS Salary Page Reports To: Program Manager for Related and Support Services/Director of Psychological and Support Services, Senior ED of Exceptional Children/Pre-K Director Salary Grade: Psychologist or Master's Level Teacher; eligible for local supplement and EC supplement Work Location: Lincoln Center FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: 10 Month
Position Summary

To help students with communication disorders reach their potential for functional communication as they access their educational environments

Essential Duties
  • Demonstrates leadership with colleagues including SLP-PLC, on committees within the school and in local, state and national professional organizations (as applicable).
  • Works cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the local education agency.
  • Provides appropriate information on an informal or formal basis regarding speech, language and hearing programs.
  • Maintains records of the speech-language program and prepares quarterly reports as required. In addition documents speech therapy services and all required ECATS documentation.
  • Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards.
  • Provides consultation to parents, classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists and other appropriate school personnel.
  • Adjusts intervention strategies based upon student performance.
  • Promotes effective interpersonal relations with students.
  • Collaborates/consults with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language disorders.
  • Meets with and collaborates with EC team PLC including but not limited to school psychologist, EC program facilitator, EC teachers, occupational therapist, etc.
  • Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school personnel.
  • Seeks the assistance of teachers, parents and others to meet the communication needs of students.
  • Consults/communicates with non-school agencies to enhance services.
  • Makes recommendations and referrals for audiological/medical and related services.
  • Applies a systematic workload model to facilitate and organize the speech-language program within the school and schedule interventions using a variety of service delivery models.
  • Conducts speech, language and hearing screening, administers formal and informal assessments, and obtains additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons and available records for speech-language purposes.
  • Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, including the Extended Content Standards, in the management of communicative disorders.
  • Plans and delivers evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.
  • Uses evidence-based methods and techniques appropriate to stated objectives.
  • Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language-hearing and education.
  • Analyzes the impact of comprehensive speech-language services on student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • Must hold a Master's Degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Speech Language Pathology, or Speech & Hearing Sciences
  • Must hold a license from The North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Speech Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certified
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to perform medium physical work duties consistent with the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, and be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners
