Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to support students with communication disorders. The role reports to the Program Manager for Related and Support Services and works at Lincoln Center in Chapel Hill, NC, on a 10-month schedule.

The SLP will assess, plan, and deliver evidence-based interventions, maintain records, and collaborate with teachers and therapists to optimize student outcomes. Licensure in NC and ASHA certification are required or expected.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Speech Language Pathology, or Speech & Hearing Sciences.
  • Authorized NC SLP license required; ASHA certification preferred.
  • NC Professional Educator's License in SLP or eligibility to obtain it.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership with SLP PLC and school committees.
  • Collaborates with school personnel to meet ESEA/IEP goals.
  • Conducts speech, language, and hearing screenings and assessments.
  • Maintains speech-language program records and ECATS documentation.
  • Provides consultation to parents and classroom staff.
  • Plans and delivers evidence-based interventions for students.

Education

Master's degree in CSD / SLP related field
NC SLP license (North Carolina Board of Examiners for SLPs and Audiologists)
North Carolina Professional Educator's License in SLP
ASHA Certification
Valid driver’s license

Job Title and Summary

Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist

Salary Schedule: State Salary Schedule; in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule. CHCCS Salary Page

Reports To: Program Manager for Related and Support Services/Director of Psychological and Support Services, Senior ED of Exceptional Children/Pre‑K Director

Salary Grade: Psychologist or Master's Level Teacher; eligible for local supplement and EC supplement

Work Location: Lincoln Center

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: 10‑Month

Position Summary: To help students with communication disorders reach their potential for functional communication as they access their educational environments.

Essential Duties
  • Demonstrates leadership with colleagues including SLP‑PLC, on committees within the school and in local, state and national professional organizations (as applicable).
  • Works cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the local education agency.
  • Provides appropriate information on an informal or formal basis regarding speech, language and hearing programs.
  • Maintains records of the speech‑language program and prepares quarterly reports as required. In addition documents speech therapy services and all required ECATS documentation.
  • Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards.
  • Provides consultation to parents, classroom teachers, speech‑language pathologists and other appropriate school personnel.
  • Adjusts intervention strategies based upon student performance.
  • Promotes effective interpersonal relations with students.
  • Collaborates/consults with classroom teachers in the management of speech‑language disorders.
  • Meets with and collaborates with EC team PLC including but not limited to school psychologist, EC program facilitator, EC teachers, occupational therapist, etc.
  • Coordinates speech‑language services with student services provided by other school personnel.
  • Seeks the assistance of teachers, parents and others to meet the communication needs of students.
  • Consults/communicates with non‑school agencies to enhance services.
  • Makes recommendations and referrals for audiological/medical and related services.
  • Applies a systematic workload model to facilitate and organize the speech‑language program within the school and schedule interventions using a variety of service delivery models.
  • Conducts speech, language and hearing screening, administers formal and informal assessments, and obtains additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons and available records for speech‑language purposes.
  • Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech‑language services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, including the Extended Content Standards, in the management of communicative disorders.
  • Plans and delivers evidence‑based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.
  • Uses evidence‑based methods and techniques appropriate to stated objectives.
  • Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech‑language‑hearing and education.
  • Analyzes the impact of comprehensive speech‑language services on student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Must hold a Master's Degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Speech Language Pathology, or Speech & Hearing Sciences
  • Must hold a license from The North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech‑Language Pathologists and Audiologists
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Speech Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certified
  • Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Ability to perform medium physical work duties consistent with the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, and be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners
