Job Summary

Evaluates, plans, directs, and administers speech therapy programs to restore function, prevent disability, and help patients reach their maximum level of independence. Provides assessment of patient condition based on diagnosis from the referring physician. Develops and updates an appropriate plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family to assist in returning them to their maximum level of function. Evaluates and treats patients with speech, language, cognitive–communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly.

Job Duties
  1. Performs evaluations of speech language and swallowing function to detect speech or voice disorders.
  2. Evaluates cognition, expressive, and receptive language, written language, reading comprehension, speech intelligibility, oral motor structure, and voice.
  3. Supports effective communication and collaboration with the physician oversight of speech pathology programs.
  4. Completes supportive documentation/billing in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory compliance.
  5. Assists in increasing speech intelligibility, using alternative or augmentative devices to facilitate better communication.
  6. Reviews the quality and appropriateness of services delivered and of individual speech–language pathology programs for effectiveness and efficiency.
  7. Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
  8. Delivers evidence–based patient care appropriate to age/patient specific needs in a cost–effective manner.
  9. Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication and/or swallowing or cognitive problems.
  10. Assists in determining appropriate dietary feeding levels for patients with dysphagia or other special needs in collaboration with physicians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Ability to work at various locations and shifts per diem.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of work flow.
  • Ability to identify patient-specific speech rehabilitation learning needs.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support – State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • SLP – Licensed Speech Language Pathologist – State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Speech Language Pathology
  • 1 year clinical experience in Home Care
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. Examples include pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8–10 miles per shift. Activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR, as required by role.
