Job summary

Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis County is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to work in our inpatient setting. The SLP must be certified in Modified Barium Swallowing Studies (MBSS/MBS).

The role includes Wed, Thu, Fri totaling 24 hours weekly (8:00–4:30). On‑call weekends occur every 8 weeks. You will provide diagnostic and treatment services across inpatient units, collaborating with the Speech Therapy Department.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Speech Pathology required.
• Licensed/Certified Speech-Language Pathologist (ASHA preferred).
• MBSS/MBS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Establishes treatment plans and delivers therapy with discharge needs and equipment considerations.
• Educates and collaborates with patients, families, and providers; refers to specialists as needed.
• Delegates tasks to assistants and students with defined competencies.
• Completes documentation per departmental policies.
• Provides assessment, reassessment, and consultations for Speech Services.

Overview

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Missouri Baptist is the first and only hospital in St. Louis County to be named a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The prestigious designation is the highest credential a health care organization can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient care. Our Speech Therapy Department includes two full-time, and three PRN speech-language pathologists. On the acute inpatient units, the focus is on diagnostic procedures including modified barium swallow studies and fiber optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). On the inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient units, diagnostic and treatment focus is more diverse and includes intervention for disorders: voice, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing. Other areas of emphasis are coordinated services between Respiratory and Speech Therapy for patients on mechanical ventilated support and neurological patients undergoing rehabilitation.

Role Purpose

The Registered Speech Pathologist or Speech Therapist provides skilled speech and swallow therapy services to patients including all aspects of evaluation and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Establishes treatment plan and provides treatment, considering discharge needs; expected discharge functional status; and appropriate equipment and supplies.
• Educates, collaborates with, and conferences with patients, families, and other health care providers; making recommendations for referrals to specialists as needed.
• Delegates to assistants, techs, and students through written and verbal communication including determining the skill level or competency required to provide interventions to best meet the needs of the patient.
• Completes documentation in accordance with departmental policies.
• Provides assessment, reassessment, and/or consultations for Speech Services.
