Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking a qualified Speech Language Pathologist in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Job Description

Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill a Speech Language Pathologist (face‑to‑face or Teletherapist position) with preferred experience with American Sign Language (ASL). Qualifications
  • Completion of training with a Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology.
  • A current license from the Iowa Board of Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology, in the Department of Public Health (DPH), and a Statement of Professional Recognition (SPR) from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
  • Or meet Iowa Board of Educational Examiners guidelines for a Speech‑Language Pathologist and possess the ability to obtain the Iowa DPH licensure within two years of hire.
  • Experience with American Sign Language.
General Responsibilities
  • Consultation, Collaboration, and Coaching: Serve as a liaison among AEA team members, school staff, families, and community organizations to enhance learner outcomes; collaborate with school teams to develop and evaluate intervention strategies within the Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS); provide consultation to staff on communication development and the impact of communication disorders on learning and social‑emotional development.
  • Assessment and Intervention: Complete comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility for Early ACCESS or special education services and develop Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) or Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); provide direct instruction or consultative support to improve speech sound disorders; provide direct instruction or consultative support to improve expressive and receptive language disorders; utilize research‑based practices to create and implement individualized instruction and monitor effectiveness through data collection.
  • Instructional Support: Use data to inform instructional strategies, measure progress, and refine interventions; support school teams in collecting and analyzing data for academic and behavioral improvement in special education; identify need and train district and school staff on the use and coordination of communication assistive technology.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations; maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, interventions, and progress monitoring in compliance with state, federal, and agency policies; participate actively in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and reevaluations; utilize consistent organization and workload planning; effectively prioritize tasks and manage workload; implement and maintain systematic progress monitoring procedures and generate reports.
  • Professional Development: Participate in internal and external professional learning activities to stay current with trends and evidence‑based practices.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Advocate for learners with disabilities and promote inclusive practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and objectives of the department, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in response to changing needs and priorities.
  • May include the need to direct or inform speech‑language pathology assistants or paraprofessionals.

Working Conditions
  • Regular travel requirements: Frequent travel is required between office locations and school sites within the agency’s designated region; occasional statewide or out‑of‑state travel for conferences, training sessions, and other professional development events is also expected.
  • Physical demands: Regular standing and sitting; prolonged periods of walking or standing; occasional lifting and carrying of equipment and materials up to 25 pounds; sufficient mobility and dexterity for office‑based tasks.
  • Environmental conditions: Exposure to varying weather conditions and environments, including outdoor settings and crowded spaces.
  • Visual and auditory requirements: Clear verbal communication; auditory ability to listen; visual acuity for reviewing documents and screens.
