Primary Purpose:

Serve as the speech-language pathologist assistant responsible for treating speech and language disordersand implementing programs designed to increase a student’s speech, language, and communication development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee, as appropriate as a licensed SLP-Assistant, to present speech and language goals that have been developed by the licensed SLP supervisor.
  • Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in the Individualized Education Plans (IEP) designed by the licensed SLP supervisor.
  • When appropriate, provide services in an inclusive setting and coordinate intervention with general education staff.
  • Keep meaningful and accurate data for each session with every student on assigned caseload.
  • Function as a consultant in speech and language to parents and staff as required.
  • Participate in staffings of students served when requested.
  • Participate with district in-services, parent training, and public awareness presentations regarding communication with a variety of needs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of ARD meetings and related activities.
  • Utilize relevant data and report objective information to complete progress notes according to the district schedule for every student on assigned caseload by the designated due date.
  • Monitor student audit folders, including filling all required paperwork, in a timely manner.
  • Follow billing and reimbursement procedures for Medicaid and other needed documentation such as time studies.
  • Complete required district caseload studies, logs, and Childhood Outcome Summaries by requested due dates.
  • Attend monthly campus speech-language pathologist meetings and all required training.
  • Use technology to organize information, schedule meetings and/or staffings, develop and maintain ARD documentation and produce written materials.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and skills by engaging in professional development activities.
  • Complete projects, duties and extra responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator or campus administrator.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling and use of prescribed holding techniques, when necessary. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities and assist non-ambulatory students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Daily driving in the district from one campus to another.

*Department of Labor-designated Non-Exempt if salary is <$844/week
