Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist is essential in identifying and treating patients with communication and swallowing deficits. A comprehensive grasp of speech therapy principles and techniques is necessary to address a diverse array of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders. Working across multiple settings, including Acute Care Facility and Outpatient settings, the Speech Therapy Therapist develops tailored treatment plans to aid patients in enhancing their speech and swallowing capabilities. Administrative responsibilities, such as record-keeping and patient evaluation, are also key components of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' levels of speech or language difficulty through communication and standardized tests.
  • Develop and carry out individualized treatment plans as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist patients in articulating sounds and improving voice quality.
  • Teach alternative communication methods, such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) or sign language, to patients with limited speech capability.
  • Work with patients to improve reading and writing skills.
  • Develop and implement exercises to strengthen the muscles used in swallowing.
  • Counsel patients and families on coping mechanisms for communication disorders.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient evaluations, diagnoses, treatment progress, and changes in treatment plans.
  • Perform modified barium swallows/video fluoroscopic swallow studies in our Radiology department
  • Complete final evaluations when patients finish therapy.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. (Required)

Experience

  • Completion of a degree program associated with Speech-Language Pathology. (Required)

Licenses And Certifications

  • New York State license for Speech-Language Pathology, along with a certificate of clinical competence. (Required)
  • Limited license is required for Clinical Fellowship.

  • Proficiency in evaluating and treating speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of alternative communication methods and techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
