Job summary

UNC Health in Raleigh, North Carolina, is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist I to provide evidence-based evaluation and treatment for communication, swallowing, cognition and related disorders. The clinician also supports family education and participates in departmental education and outreach.

You will handle daily caseloads, document and bill per guidelines, and contribute to ongoing clinical program development in a collaborative, on-site team environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.
  • ASHA certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Active NC licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • BLS certification within 3 months of hire.

  • Completes documentation, billing, and statistics per team guidelines; manages daily caseload.
  • Performs basic evaluations and diagnostic testing; develops and updates plans of care.
  • Provides clinical precepting and teaching for graduate students and staff.

Summary

Speech Language Pathologist I provides evidence-based evaluation, treatment interventions, and educational instruction to patients and caregivers with various diagnoses and impairments affecting communication, swallowing, cognition and other disorders. The clinician provides student shadowing, clinical instruction, and participates in departmental and community continuing education and outreach.

Responsibilities
  • Completes speech lang pathologist documentation, billing, and statistics per team guidelines. Manage daily caseload with efficiency and efficacy. Meets productivity standards per team guidelines.
  • Administers basic evaluation and diagnostic testing and analysis, establishes a plan of care that consists of current and advanced techniques and subsequent modification to accomplish patient goals; Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Provides clinical precepting and teaching for graduate students, staff, and clinical fellows under the guidance of the clinical specialist or other subject matter experts.
  • Assists in the planning and coordinating of innovative clinical programs in collaboration with the clinical specialist, supervisor, or manager. Participates in continuous improvement in clinical services by attending and participating in departmental meetings and in-services.

Education Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Speech-Language Pathology certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
  • BLS within 3 months of hire date.

  • No prior experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements
  • Exhibits effective communication and interprofessional skills; requires physical stamina and repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, and squatting during patient interventions while supporting one's weight; can engage in high-level problem-solving to ensure patient safety during mobilization.
