Job description

Job Summary: Provide speech services to persons under specific medical orders as part of a coordinated team. Perform duties under strict rules of confidentiality.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited program of speech language pathology with a master’s degree in communication disorder and hold a certificate of clinical competency.
  • Personal Job-Related Skills: Must be able to operate Speech Therapy devices. Effective oral and written communication abilities. Ability to operate a personal computer and basic office equipment. Organized and self directed. Task oriented (requiring little to no supervision).
  • Licensure, Registry or Certification: Licensed and Registered in the State of Texas. CPR license current.
  • Experience: One year as a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist Therapist preferred.
  • Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of walking and standing. Repeated bending, stooping and reaching is required with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews the diagnosis of patients, evaluates the patients’ condition, establishes a plan of treatment, and performs discharge planning and reevaluations.
  • Instruct the patient and family in care and use of speech therapy devises; inform supervisor of faulty equipment, or if supplies are diminishing.
  • Provide speech therapy services as prescribed by a physician that can be safely provided in the facility and assisting the physician in evaluating patients. Contact a physician’s office if orders in the chart are unclear or if further orders are needed.
  • Instruct other healthcare team personnel, including when appropriate, family members, in certain phases of speech therapy with which they may work the patients; perform co-treatments with other rehab staff when appropriate.
  • Provide care appropriate for the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge for the principles of growth and development.
  • Assess and interpret data on the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients’ status to identify patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in department policy.
  • Administer and interpret evaluations for scope and sequence of communication disorders-speech, articulation, voice, fluency, expressive/receptive language, and swallowing disorders.
  • Complete required paperwork evaluation, write-ups, treatment plans/plan of care.
  • Plan and prepare therapy sessions.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order and supplies are stocked accordingly.
  • Instruct other health care team members, including family members when needed, in certain phases of speech therapy with which they may work the patients.
  • Perform co-treatments with other rehab staff as necessary.
  • Make sure all patients charges are turned in on a timely basis.
  • Properly document all clinical activities.
  • Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
