Job summary

The Children’s Center in Virginia is seeking compassionate Speech-Language Pathologists to join our Head Start/Early Head Start team. This role supports preschool-aged children with communication needs in a federally funded program that serves low-income families.

We offer a collaborative, family-centered environment with strong emphasis on education and development. Key qualifications include a Master’s in SLP, state licensure, CPR/First Aid training, and 1–3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience and knowledge of speech therapy practices.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification is required.
  • Must be licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist with Virginia licensure or equivalent licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide therapy services for speech, language, fluency, voice, and feeding disorders.
  • Assist in evaluations and recommendations of services for clients.
  • Collaborate with families to develop goals for the child.
  • Deliver therapy in the child’s natural environment and daily routine.
  • Communicate with parents to build healthy partnerships supporting the child’s development.
  • Contribute to mission of providing no-cost services to qualifying families through Head Start programs.

The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at-risk families.

  • Provides therapy services for speech, language, fluency, voice, hearing and feeding and swallowing disorders.
  • Assists in evaluations of clients and in the recommendation of services.
  • Works with families to develop goals for the child.
  • Works with the child in his/her natural environment in harmony with the child's daily routine.
  • Communicate directly with parents to build healthy partnerships that promote the child’s success and healthy development.

We are most interested in applicants who…
  • Have 1-3 years of experience and knowledge of speech therapy and practices.
  • Have CPR/First Aid training
  • Flexibility with work hours and scheduling
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Master's degree in speech-language pathology, preferred.
  • A speech language pathologists must be licensed. Licensure requirements include clinical experience and passing the licensure exam.
  • Knowledge of speech therapy principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of speech and language assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of agency and accreditation guidelines.
  • Knowledge of program reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of therapy guidelines including Virginia rehabilitation regulations, federal and state law and Part C guidelines.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in the assessment of needs and in the delivery of therapy services.
