Job summary

Seymour Community Schools is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to help reduce speech and hearing impediments that affect students’ access to education. The role involves delivering individualized therapy, collaborating with teachers, and supporting families within the school setting.

The ideal candidate will hold an MS in the field, possess a valid Indiana SLP license and Indiana State Teacher License, and demonstrate experience with students.

Speech Language Pathologist
Selected by: Board of School Trustees by Recommendation of the Superintendent

Evaluated by: Director of Exceptional Needs and/or appropriate administrative personnel

Reports to: Director of Exceptional Needs and building Principal and/or appropriate administrative personnel

Terms of Employment: 185 working days per year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

SUMMARY: To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the Corporation educational program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  2. Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children.
  3. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  4. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
  5. Provides screening to identify students with language or speech concerns at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  6. Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student’s needs and correct existing speech or language disabilities.
  7. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  8. Provides information and speech/language support to parents and families when appropriate.
  9. Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
  10. Keeps thorough ongoing record for the individual student receiving therapy or other school provided speech services.
  11. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students.
  12. Assumes primary responsibility doe requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  13. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with school personnel, students and parents.
  14. Promote good public relations for the School Corporation and community.
  15. Teach by example by exemplifying good moral conduct.
  16. Demonstrates professional growth.
  17. Other duties assigned by the administrators.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

M.S. in area of major study

Successful experience working with students preferred.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid Indiana State Teacher License.
  • Licensure and endorsements in multiple disciplines preferred
  • Valid Indiana SLP License
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply general mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community, and ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
