Job summary

Easterseals Southwest Florida seeks a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to provide direct services to Academy students with special needs. You will conduct assessments, plan and implement therapy, document progress, and communicate with families and school staff.

AAC consultation for preschool through Grade 12 is included. The role requires a Master’s in communication sciences and disorders, ASHA CCCs, Florida licensure, and at least five years of experience with children who use AAC; MS

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders.
  • Five years’ experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist with AAC experience preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Florida license and ASHA CCCs preferred; CPR/First Aid desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screenings and assessments to determine intervention needs and develop treatment plans.
  • Serve as liaison with clients, families, and school teams; coordinate treatment plans.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment based on physician orders and progress toward goals.
  • Develop home or community programming to support client performance.
  • Document outcomes, discharge plans, and progress notes.
  • Collaborate with academy staff on communication interventions and classroom adaptations.
  • Provide training on visual supports and low/high-tech communication systems.
  • Review effectiveness of speech therapy programs using predefined criteria.

Education

Master’s degree in communication sciences and Disorders from an ASHA-accredited University.

Experience

A minimum of five years’ experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist with experience working with children who have Alternative/Augmentative Communication needs. Have a working knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Significant experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum is preferred.

Required Credentials

Must have a valid Driver’s License. Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and a Department of Health License from the state of Florida. Florida Medicaid number and National Provider Identifier number preferred. CPR/First Aid Certification is preferable, but we will train to obtain certification. All employees must pass a background screening and a drug test to be employed.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct screenings of clients and obtain necessary data to determine the need for intervention, treatment planning, and implementation.
  • Serve as liaison to client, family, and team to conduct specialized evaluations, interpret and communicate evaluation findings, establish client schedules, and coordinate treatment plans.
  • Monitor the client’s response to intervention and modify treatment as indicated to attain goals by physician orders.
  • Develop appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the client in his/her environment.
  • Document results of client’s assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services. Participate in discharge planning.
  • Work with Academy Staff on communication interventions for the classrooms and modify classroom environments to meet the communication needs of the students.
  • Conduct training as needed for visual support strategies to use in classrooms.
  • Conduct training using low-tech and high-tech communication systems.
  • Review the quality and appropriateness of the total services delivered and of individual speech therapy programs for effectiveness and efficiency, using predetermined criteria
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
