Job summary

Prince George County Public Schools is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide targeted therapy across district schools. The role requires active BASLP licensure, with itinerant travel among sites and a 10-month contract aligned to the school calendar.

The successful candidate will assess and treat speech, language, and voice impairments, guide teachers in identification and referrals, maintain thorough records, and collaborate with families to support each student's educational goals.

Qualifications

  • Active license in speech-language pathology (BASLP) required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource to school staff in developing a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of speech, language and hearing-impaired children.
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language fluency impairments.
  • Provide screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  • Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  • Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Provide in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
  • Keep thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  • Maintain lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
  • Compile case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history, and environmental history are deemed appropriate.
  • Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

TITLE:
  • Speech-Language Pathologist
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Holds an active, valid license in speech-language pathology (full or school only) issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech -Language Pathology (BASLP)
REPORTS TO:
  • Principal/Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL:
  • To help reduce or eliminate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Positions that are itinerant will involve frequent traveling between schools and will also involve periodic transporting of audiometers
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • 10-month contract; Salary based upon teacher's scale
EVALUATION:
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
