Job summary

Wcr4 in Missouri seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to help reduce speech and hearing impediments and enable students to benefit from the district's educational program.

You will review referrals, coordinate with staff and families, plan individualized therapy programs, maintain records, and provide staff training, with a strong emphasis on IEPs and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Missouri license as a Speech and Language Pathologist.

Responsibilities

  • Review referrals/diagnoses and participate in conferences to formulate recommendations for student placement and services.
  • Monitor staff activities and provide technical assistance in assessment, curriculum development, materials use and behavior management.
  • Plan and conduct in-service training and serve as a consultant to teachers on speech improvement topics.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual speech and language needs.
  • Provide individualized therapy plans to meet each student’s needs and correct speech and language problems.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for students’ progress receiving therapy.
  • Maintain lists of referred, screened and eligible students and a directory of related services.
  • Compile case history data including family health history and environmental history when appropriate.
  • Assume responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies.

JOB OVERVIEW:

To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and /or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Review referrals/diagnoses and participate in conference with administrators, staff, parents, children and other concerned parties to formulate recommendations for student placement and provision of services.
  • Monitor staff activities and give technical assistance in areas such as assessment, curriculum development, use of materials and equipment and management of student behavior.
  • Plan and conduct in-service training and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing impaired children.
  • Provide appropriate individualized program of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech and language problems.
  • Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date records for the individual students’ progress receiving therapy.
  • Maintain lists of referred screened and eligible students, as well as, a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists and related services.
  • Compile case history data on those cases where additional family history, health history, early developmental history and environmental history are deem appropriate.
  • Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong understanding of speech-related conditions, causes and treatments.
  • Excellent coaching and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, especially patient and healthcare databases.
  • Attentive and caring with the ability to develop individualized plans (IEPs).
  • Caring and knowledgeable about speech-related conditions and therapies.
  • Adaptable, analytical and resourceful.
  • Willing to alter treatment plans to better suit individual needs.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT & EVALUATION:

Length of contract and salary to be determined by the Certificated Employee Salary Schedule and Addendum as approved annually be the Board of Education.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.

Requirements:
