Job summary

Champion, Partners in Rehab is seeking a PRN Speech-Language Pathologist for a SNF setting in Roanoke, Alabama, at Traylor Retirement Community. The clinician will perform quality speech and dysphagia evaluations and treatments, following physician prescriptions under the Clinical Director's oversight.

Responsibilities include screening and diagnosing communication and swallowing disorders across all ages, supervising related programs, and counseling patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Master's or doctoral degree, CCC-SLP, and Alabama license required.
  • Clinical fellowship year preferred or will be supervised by a CCC-SLP.
  • COVID vaccination preferred but exemptions considered.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, identify, assess, diagnose, and rehabilitate speech, language, and cognitive disorders.
  • Provide dysphagia evaluations and therapy; manage care per physician prescriptions.
  • Coordinate with staff and families; participate in department operations and discharge planning.
  • Document evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Lead staff in-service sessions as needed.

Job description

This is a PRN SNF Speech-Language Pathologist Position in Roanoke, Alabama.

Location: Traylor Retirement Community

We will cover the cost for Alabama licensure.

The Staff Speech-Language Pathologist shall provide quality speech/dysphagia evaluations and treatments to patients with communication and/or swallowing deficits, and participate in the departmental operations as assigned by the Clinical Director.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
  • 1. Identify, assess, and provide treatment for individuals of all ages with communication/dysphagia disorders.
  • 2. Manage and supervise programs and services related to human communication and its disorders.
  • 3. Counsel individuals with disorders of communication, their families, caregivers, and other service providers relative to the disability present and its management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Communication and hearing skills which allow for evaluation and treatment of speech/language disorders.
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
  • 1. Desire to work with and for people with temporary and/or chronic physical, mental, and developmental handicaps.
  • 2. A knowledge of medical terminology to understand prescriptions and communicate with Physicians and Staff.
  • 3. Preferably, knowledge and experience in the administration of video fluoroscopic evaluations and therapy for patients with dysphagia.
  • 4. Able to work with individuals of all ages from neonates to geriatrics.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's or doctoral degree, the Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Alabama State License.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, OTHER:

Preferred completion of clinical fellowship year or will be supervised by a speech pathologist with a Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

COVID vaccination is preferred for this position. However, an exemption will be entertained.

WORK PERFORMED:

Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Speech Pathologist provides treatment only on written prescription of a licensed physician.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Screening, identifying, assessing and interpreting, diagnosing, and rehabilitating disorders of speech (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice) and language.
  • 2. Screening, identifying, assessing and interpreting, diagnosing, and rehabilitating disorders of oropharyngeal function (e.g. dysphagia) and related disorders.
  • 3. Screening, identifying, assessing and interpreting, diagnosing, and rehabilitating cognitive/communication disorders.
  • 4. Assessing, selecting, and developing augmentative and alternative communication systems and providing training in their use.
  • 5. Assisting in record keeping and charging system of the department.
  • 6. Discharge planning in treatment program.
  • 7. Documenting evaluation, treatment plan, goals, progress notes, and discharge summary of patients treated.
  • 8. Performing staff and nursing in-service programs as needed on areas of relevant interest and need.
