Job summary

Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist for the Rehab/Speech Therapy department. The role is a 1.0 FTE position with a Day schedule, offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus to qualified applicants.

You will conduct evaluations, provide therapy, and work with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include patient assessment, intervention planning, patient and family education, and collaboration with care

Qualifications

  • Current licensure in Speech and Language Pathology in Minnesota.
  • ASHA CCC-SLP or eligibility within 12 months of hire.
  • BLS certification or ability to obtain within 6 months, and maintain certification.
  • Experience in acute hospital setting preferred.

  • Reliable and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Orient staff and students as needed and cover supervisor duties when absent.
  • Accurately assess patients' communication needs.
  • Identify and initiate appropriate speech and language interventions.
  • Provide patient and family education and counseling.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to maintain high-quality therapy practice.
  • Participate in performance improvement and program development activities.
  • Contribute to budget planning and cost-effectiveness of services.
  • Document observations and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain positive relations with patients and staff.

OVERVIEW

The staff Speech and Language Therapist assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides speech and language therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.

DUTIES
  • May be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual.
  • Accurately assesses patients' needs.
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate speech and language therapy interventions.
  • Provides patient and family teaching.
  • Works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional speech and language therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • These functions are carried out according to hospital policy in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital and consistent with the philosophy of the department.
  • Participates in performance improvement and program development activities.
  • Provides input into the budgetary planning process.
  • Contributes to cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department
  • Communicates observations and suggestions related to opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintains positive relations with all customers.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Has current licensure in Speech and Language Pathology in the State of Minnesota.
  2. Certified by ASHA for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology or ability to obtain within first 12 months of hire.
  3. Has BLS certification or ability to attain within six (6) months, and must maintain certification.
  4. Experience in the care of patients in an acute hospital setting preferred.
  5. Demonstrates participation in and upholds Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital's Mission, Vision and Values.
  6. Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
