Job summary

Wallowa Memorial Hospital seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders across inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized plans that support recovery, safety and quality of life in a rural healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program required.
  • Current and unrestricted license from the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, or the ability to obtain licensure prior to employment required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete continuing education requirements in accordance with Oregon state licensing regulations.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment and treatment planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, contact and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Proficient with or willing to learn telehealth platforms and remote care delivery methods.
  • Experience in an inpatient, acute care or rehabilitation setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech-language pathology services to adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients.
  • Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.

  • Document evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries per hospital policy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with regulations.
  • Demonstrated compassionate, patient-centered care across diverse populations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication, social communication and swallowing disorders in patients through inpatient and outpatient treatment. The SLP collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that support patient recovery, safety and quality of life. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical skills, adaptability and a passion for providing high-quality therapy in a rural healthcare environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Providing speech-language pathology services to adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients
  • Evaluating and diagnosing speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals
  • Collaborating with physicians, nurses and other rehabilitation professionals to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Educating patients, families and caregivers on communication strategies, swallowing precautions and ongoing therapy needs
  • Documenting evaluations, progress notes and discharge summaries in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards
  • Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings and contributing to care planning and discharge processes
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care across diverse populations
  • Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, drug screen and reference checks
