Job summary

Calumet County is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide services to students with speech and language needs under the supervision of the Director of Special Education. The role includes developing IEP goals and collaborating with teachers, families, and related service staff.

A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required, and candidates must hold Wisconsin licensure eligibility; ASHA CCC is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Eligibility for WI DPI licensure; ASHA CCC preferred.
  • Experience in a school setting is preferred.

Job description

Under the general direction of the Calumet County Director of Special Education and adherence to the philosophy and goals of the district, provides speech/language services for each student identified as having a disability or related services need in the area of speech and language. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participatesinspeech/languagescreeningswhentheyareheld.

Screens referrals from teachers, principals, parents, and special service personnel and make referrals as needed.

DevelopsanIndividualEducationPlan(IEP)forallstudentsonthecaseloadfollowingtheDPIcriteriaand using input from teachers and parents.

Selects, prepares and uses materials for implementing the IEP including materials for classroom, and home activities when relevant.

Plansandimplementseducationallyrelevanttherapyusingalogicalsequenceofactivities.

Establishes and maintains a positive, organized and safe learning environment using appropriate and effective behavior management.

Assistsintheenforcementofschoolrules,administrativeregulations,andSchoolBoardpolicies. Uses technology resources effectively.

ReevaluatesstudentsenrolledinthespeechandlanguageprogramasrequiredbyDPI.

Assessesstudentprogressandcommunicatesthatinformationknowledgeablyandresponsiblytostudents, parents, and professional staff.

Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, valuingof cultural diversity, and respect for self and others.

Recognizes overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting action.

Consults with teachers about classroom modifications and be a resource for information about speech and language development and disorders.

Participates in appropriate activities for the continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills.

Attendsmeetingsasrequired.

Keepsabreastofrelevantlaws,rulesandpolicies.

Providestrainingand/orinformationforparents,teachers,andadministrators.

Establishes and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with student’s families to increase student achievement.

Performs otherincidental tasks consistentwith the goals andobjectives ofthis positionandotherduties as directed by the Director of Special Education.

Maintains case records containing pertinent, accurate and current information; preparecorrespondence, reports and other records as required.

Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution of higher education; at least two years’ experience as a Speech and Language Pathologist in a school setting preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, clients, and the general public.

Ability to communicate tactfully, clearly, concisely, accurately and to establish a therapeutic relationship with students and families.

Mathematical Skills

Abilitytocalculatefiguresandamountssuchasdiscounts,interest,proportions,andpercentages.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
