Job summary

Colonial School District - Delaware is seeking a Speech and Language Pathologist to provide high‑quality speech and language services for students, assessing and addressing communication disorders to support academic progress.

The SLP will collaborate with teachers, families, and related service providers to implement IEPs, integrate communication goals into instruction, and ensure access to the general curriculum.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Delaware Speech Language Pathologist license or be eligible.
  • Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology required.
  • Background check clear and no Child Protection Registry entries in Delaware.
  • Praxis II tests completed and student teaching experience.
  • Bachelor's degree; Master’s preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and provide direct and consultative SLP services.
  • Develop and implement IEP goals with educators and families.
  • Collaborate with related service providers to support inclusion.
  • Deliver services in accordance with Common Core-aligned curricula.
  • Balance in-person and remote service delivery as needed.

Position: Speech and Language Pathologist

Location: assigned to Schools Division -location to be determined

Start Date: August 2026

Reports to: Principal/Administrators in Student Services

Compensation:Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website

Work Year: 10 months

POSITION GOAL :

The goal of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is to provide high-quality, evidence-based speech and language services that enable students with communication disorders to make meaningful progress in their academic, social, and functional communication skills. This position aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment where students can develop effective communication abilities that promote independence, access to the curriculum, and positive interactions with peers and adults. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing direct and consultative services to students with speech, language, voice, and fluency needs. The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), integrate communication goals into classroom instruction, and ensure students can effectively access and participate in the general education curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

  • Must be eligible or hold valid License as a State of Delaware Speech Language Pathologist
  • Hold a Master\'s degree in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware.
  • Successful completion of required Praxis II tests and student teaching placement.
  • Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university. Master\'s degree preferred..
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
  • Show evidence of knowledge regarding evidence and research-based strategies known to be effective in promoting student learning and achievement for students.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
  • Proficient in Technology, such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.
  • Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job related tasks.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Must be able to teach/serve students remotely and in person depending on the needs of their students.
