Overview

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides high-quality, evidence-based speech and language services to students with communication disorders. The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to support IEP development and implementation, integrate communication goals into classroom instruction, and ensure students access the general education curriculum aligned with standards.

Position and Responsibilities

Position: Speech and Language Pathologist

Location: assigned to Schools Division – location to be determined

Start Date: August 2026

Reports to: Principal/Administrators in Student Services

Work Year: 10 months

Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website

Position Goal: The SLP provides high-quality, evidence-based speech and language services that enable students with communication disorders to make meaningful progress in academic, social, and functional communication. The SLP assesses, diagnoses, and delivers direct and consultative services for speech, language, voice, and fluency needs, and collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to develop IEPs and support access to the curriculum.

Minimum Requirements
  • Valid License as a State of Delaware Speech Language Pathologist (or eligible)
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on the Child Protection Registry in Delaware
  • Successful completion of Praxis II tests and student teaching placement
  • Preference for Master’s degree; Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the public
  • Knowledge of evidence-based strategies to promote student learning
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups
  • Proficiency with technology (Microsoft, Google Apps, ClassLink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.)
  • Regular attendance as an essential function
  • Ability to teach/serve students remotely and in person as needed
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Assess students to develop and implement IEPs based on assessments, needs, and progress toward goals in speech and language pathology
  • Design and deliver specially designed instruction aligned with IEP goals (including BIPs), using district-approved curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction to address diverse learning styles and individual levels of functioning
  • Implement and monitor evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional interventions and follow district expectations for Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Regularly collect and interpret assessment data, including IEP progress monitoring, to drive instructional decisions and report progress to families and the district
  • Develop and deliver weekly lesson plans using appropriate resources and technology
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding progress, IEP implementation and supports; participate in IEP meetings and eligibility determinations
  • Administer required informal and formal assessments based on student needs and regulatory expectations
  • Plan and deliver professional development for staff to support speech and language practices
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with peers, support staff, teachers, parents, administration, and district staff
  • Comply with Federal, State and Local regulations; complete required paperwork within timelines; utilize district resources to maintain professionalism
  • Attend professional development programs, mandated training, and self-selected workshops
  • Maintain current certifications (including clock hours via DEEDS) and stay current on evidence-based instructional strategies and technology
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor
