Job summary

Job Description

Title: Speech & Language Therapist (Grades 5-12)

Reports To: Director of Student Services

Employee Type: Full-Time, School Year Only, Salaried, Exempt

Summary

The Speech & Language Therapist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the school.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides students with an appropriate, personalized learning experience that contributes to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the IEP.
  • Provides Case Management for students who have a Primary identification of Speech and Language Impairment.
  • Evaluates student's educationally related needs toward identifying and creating goals and accommodations or interventions that may also be included in the student's IEP.
  • Develops, revises, implements and maintains IEPs and all other Special Education documents in accordance with Collegium's expectations, procedures and policies.
  • Shares a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of CCS.
  • Remains up to date on evidence-based best practices and implements those practices in the provision of Speech and Language therapy services.
  • Demonstrates effective planning and organization for instruction.
  • Uses creative instructional methods and procedures and adapts effectively to unusual situations.
  • Motivates students to achieve at their highest level of ability and potential through activities, assignments, relationships, participation, and feedback; holds high expectations and demonstrates sensitivity to different learning styles.
  • Uses resources effectively to support learning activities.
  • Demonstrates exceptional techniques.
  • Demonstrates a genuine concern for students in a climate characterized by high personal and student expectations.
  • Participates in the development of policies and regulations that affect instruction and conditions for success.
  • Uses technology effectively for instruction, record keeping and other administrative tasks, and communications.
  • Works cooperatively with other administrators, supervisors, staff, parents/guardians and outside agencies to perform job responsibilities as outlined.
  • Actively and effectively communicates with the Director of Student Services.
  • Communicates clearly and efficiently with CCS students, parents, faculty, staff and administration.
  • Holds high expectations for faculty, staff, students and self.
  • Participates in staff development programs as assigned.
  • Demonstrates effective planning, organization and teamwork.
  • Displays personal qualities that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school.
  • Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code.
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model.
  • Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school.
  • Maintains highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records.
  • Assumes other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator.
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree with active PA Speech & Language License, CCC's and/or State Teacher Certification.
  • Demonstrated competence as a Speech & Language Therapist.
  • Demonstrated competence in all areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and proficient with MS office products, or equivalent products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt.
  • Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate depending on the specific site.
