Job summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for our Peoria Advanced campus. You will work with students, families, general education teachers, and support staff to provide instruction and services aligned with IEPs.

The role requires Arizona State Certification in Special Education and a bachelor’s degree with teaching experience; you will differentiate instruction and monitor progress using data, with ongoing collaboration across the school network.

Qualifications

  • Arizona State Certification in Special Education is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field with at least two years of K–8 teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, progress monitoring, and special education services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction and support to students with IEPs.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and update IEP goals.
  • Differentiate instruction to support varied levels.
  • Use data to evaluate growth and adjust instruction.
  • Maintain accurate progress documentation and IEP requirements.

Start Date: 2026-2027 SY
Compensation: $58,331.25 – $64,571.89 year-round salary (DOE)
Sign-On Bonus: $2,000

Position Summary

AMS is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our Peoria Advanced campus. This role works closely with students, families, general education teachers, and support staff to provide individualized instruction and services aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized instruction and support to students with IEPs based on their individual academic, behavioral, and developmental needs
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and update IEP goals in accordance with student needs and applicable requirements
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing at varying academic and developmental levels
  • Use student performance data, assessments, and progress monitoring to evaluate growth and adjust instruction and interventions as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, services, accommodations, and IEP requirements
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), accommodations, modifications, and other individualized student supports
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, administrators, and other members of the student support team
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, goals, services, and areas of support
  • Participate in and contribute to IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and parent conferences
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Utilize PBIS and preventative intervention strategies to support students’ behavioral and social-emotional development
  • Participate in professional development, professional learning communities, and school-based meetings
  • Collaborate with school and network teams to continuously improve instructional practices and student outcomes
Minimum Qualifications
  • Arizona State Certification in Special Education
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least two years of K–8 teaching experience
  • Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, progress monitoring, and special education services
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and provide individualized support based on student needs
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and documentation skills
  • Commitment to supporting Title I, multilingual, and diverse student populations
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks and obtain/maintain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
