Job summary

Comal ISD Canyon High School in New Braunfels, Texas is seeking a SpEd Paraprofessional to support teachers with instructional materials, classroom management, and student supervision across the school day.

The role requires assisting students with disabilities, following written and verbal instructions, and using basic office equipment. Eligibility includes a high school diploma or GED and a Texas Educational Aide Certificate; two years of college or an associate degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheel chairs, lifting, or positioning, as necessary.
• Help manage behavior of students; intervene in crisis situations and restrain disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed.
• Support learning by adapting to each student’s needs and developing motor skills through activities.
• Supervise students during the day, including lunch, bus, and playground duties.
• Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff meetings and events.

Education
