Job summary

Lucas Elementary in Iowa City, IA is hiring a Special Education Paraprofessional for 3.5 hours per day to support students with IEP goals within the Special Education department. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and preferred para certification; prior K-12 experience is valued.

The position reports to the Building Principal and involves collaboration with school personnel, providing personal care assistance, behavior support, and crisis management training as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Para Certificate or Post-Secondary Education preferred.
• Experience in a K-12 education system is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing the student's Individual Education Plans and support material preparation.
• Assist with and/or perform personal care and hygiene activities as needed.
• Implement strategies and participate in crisis management training to support student safety.
• Support the use of alternate communication devices and ensure access across settings.
• Participate in verbal de-escalation and crisis management training.
• Maintain student documentation and progress monitoring as requested.
• Support bus transitions and bus riding as needed; complete bus rider training on hire.
• Create and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
