Job summary

A+ Charter Schools is seeking a SPED One-on-One Aide in Dallas, TX. The role provides support to instructional programs, assisting in supervision, care and instruction of students with special needs in general or self-contained classrooms.

The aide will implement instructional plans, monitor behavior, and communicate student progress to teachers, with duties including meal support, classroom setup, and transportation-related supervision.

Qualifications

  • College/High School diploma or valid Certification required.
  • Supports instructional program for students with special needs in general ed or self-contained classroom.
  • Reports to Campus Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the teacher according to the teacher's needs.
  • Makes copies of classroom materials.
  • Monitors students during classroom and play activities.
  • Reads aloud or listens to children read.
  • Prepares instructional materials and sets up equipment.
  • Provides help such as drilling with flash cards, spelling and play activities.
  • Assists students at meal periods.
  • Provides for students' physical needs as required.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly classroom.
  • Assists students getting on/off buses and at transitions.
  • Escorts students on educational trips with the teacher.
  • Assists with activities initiated by the teacher.
  • Assists with supplementary work for advanced pupils.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing.
  • Assists in setting up classrooms.
  • Assists children with names/addresses/phone numbers/parent names.
  • Reports learning difficulties to teachers.
  • Works with individuals/small groups on language development.
  • Serves as bus monitor as needed.
  • Upper grades: assist assigned students as scheduled by Campus Principal.
  • Upper grades: before/after school supervision and lunch duties.
  • Assist with personal hygiene and care needs as required.

PAY GRADE: 100% Title Funding

FLSA: Non-Exempt / Hourly

JOB GOAL:

The job of One-on-One Special Education Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the general education setting or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the teacher according to the teacher's needs
  • Makes needed copies of classroom materials
  • Monitors students during classroom and play activities
  • Reads aloud or listens to children read
  • Prepares instructional materials and sets up equipment
  • Provides special help such as drilling with flash cards, spelling and play activities
  • Assists students at meal periods
  • Provides for students' physical needs as required and/or assigned
  • Maintains a clean and orderly classroom
  • Assist students from buses to restroom facilities, etc.
  • Escorts students on educational trips outside the classroom with the teacher and other appropriate adult support
  • Assists students in performing activities that have been initiated by the teacher
  • Assists with supplementary work for advanced pupils
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work assigned by the teacher
  • Assists in setting up classrooms
  • Assists children in learning their names, addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays and parents' names
  • Hears requests for help, observes learning difficulties from pupils and reports such matters to teachers
  • Works with individual students or small groups on language development as outlined by the teacher
  • Serves as a bus monitor in transport of students as requested and/or needed
  • In upper grades the aide will work with assigned students as scheduled by the Campus Principal
  • In upper grades the aide will also be assigned to before and after school supervision and lunch duties
  • Assist students (e.g. diapering, lifting, transitioning from desk to wheelchair etc.) for the purpose of attending to the student's personal hygiene and care needs.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the Campus Principal or the supervising teacher.
