Job summary

Jackson County School District is seeking a SPED/Positive Behavior Specialist to join the District Office – Special Education. This role focuses on supporting students with behavioral needs and implementing positive interventions within the IEP framework.

The ideal candidate holds a valid professional license from MDE or the appropriate state agency, a bachelor’s degree or higher, and at least two years of experience in behavior management and designing positive interventions in education.

Qualifications

• Valid professional license from MDE or state agency.
• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in behavior management and designing positive interventions in educational settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling to special education students who require such services.
• Work with teachers to assess students' needs and to improve student behavior.
• Provide staff development focusing on students with difficult behaviors and related topics to teachers as needed.
• Develop functional behavior assessments.
• Develop and implement functional behavior plans.
• Develop and implement behavior modification plans as a member of the IEP team.
• Provide individual counseling as specified on the IEP.
• Consult with out-of-district facilities where Jackson County School District has placed students for individual services.
• Support paraprofessionals/contracted personnel assigned to students with difficult behaviors.
• Support Principals with discipline related issues as it relates to special education students.
• Serve as a member of the District Behavior Support Team.
