Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized, standards-based instruction aligned to each student's IEP.
  • Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity.
  • Utilize positive behavior supports, evidence-based instructional practices, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Collect and analyze behavioral and academic data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
  • Maintain a highly structured classroom environment that promotes safety, consistency, and student success.
  • Collaborate with Behavior Specialists, BCBAs, Campus Coordinators, administrators, related service providers, and general education teachers.
  • Participate in ARD meetings and contribute to IEP development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, behavior data, and service delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and behavioral supports.
  • Support students in developing communication, self-regulation, social skills, and independence.

The Special Education Behavior Teacher provides specialized instruction and behavioral support for students whose Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) require intensive behavioral interventions. The teacher creates a safe, structured classroom environment that promotes academic growth, social-emotional development, independence, and positive behavior while collaborating closely with campus staff, families, and related service providers.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Deliver individualized, standards-based instruction aligned to each student's IEP.
  • Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity.
  • Utilize positive behavior supports, evidence-based instructional practices, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Collect and analyze behavioral and academic data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
  • Maintain a highly structured classroom environment that promotes safety, consistency, and student success.
  • Collaborate with Behavior Specialists, BCBAs, Campus Coordinators, administrators, related service providers, and general education teachers.
  • Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and contribute to IEP development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, behavior data, and service delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and behavioral supports.
  • Support students in developing communication, self-regulation, social skills, and independence.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas Content or Generalist Certification
  • Ability to implement individualized behavioral interventions.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, TEA Special Education requirements, and IEP implementation.
Preferred
  • Experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disability, Intellectual Disabilities, or other significant behavioral needs.
  • Experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and positive behavior supports.
  • CPI or crisis prevention training (or willingness to obtain certification).
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent keyboarding, report review, and travel between campuses.

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.

Environment: Frequent travel between campuses and occasional evening meetings.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; manage multiple priorities; analyze complex service delivery systems; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines.
