Job summary

Heritage Lab Services in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a dedicated Full-time SPECIMEN PROCESSING TECHNICIAN I to unpack and enter data for specimens, begin the testing process, and collect samples for Three Rivers Diagnostics.

You will log and label specimens, input data into the LIS, aliquot and prep for analysis, and ensure proper storage and disposal per lab regulations. A high school diploma or GED is required, with six months of accessioning experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of Medical Terminology and Laboratory Procedures.
• Data Entry, Lab Compliance, Microsoft Applications.
• Organizational Skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and logging incoming specimens, verifying patient information and matching specimen with the requisition form.
• Labeling specimens accurately with patient details and sorting them based on test type and priority.
• Inputting patient information, specimen details, and test orders into the LIS.
• Aliquoting specimens, centrifuging samples as needed and preparing them for analysis.
• Distributing specimens to testing areas and monitoring specimen integrity.
• Following quality assurance procedures and escalating issues when necessary.
• Storing and disposing of specimens per regulations.
• Answers to calls and emails; assist clients as needed.
