Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a PRN Specimen Processing Technician to manage specimens as they arrive, ensuring proper labeling, order release, and handling for the pre-analytic workflow. The role supports the clinical laboratory and microbiology teams in maintaining specimen integrity and timely processing.

Responsibilities include registering samples in HIS/LIS, validating container types, and coordinating with care providers to prioritize urgent cases.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate with 6 months of clinical lab experience.
• Preferred completion of a Phlebotomy program and 1+ year experience in specimen collection/processing.

Responsibilities

• Receive and register specimens in LIS/HIS and affix barcode labels.
• Ensure correct container type, centrifugation, sterility and transport conditions.
• Perform pre-analytic processing including aliquoting and preparing specimens for automation.
• Prioritize specimens based on clinical urgency and assist with troubleshooting.
