Job summary

The technician will verify patient identification, container types, and specimen integrity, while handling aliquoting, storage, and quality assurance activities in a fast-paced clinical laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Phlebotomy program preferred.
• 6 months of clinical lab experience working with biological specimens.
• 1+ year of experience in specimen collection and processing.

Responsibilities

• Creates Registration encounters and releases orders from HIS when indicated.
• Receives samples in LIS and prints barcode labels for labeling specimens.
• Ensures proper container type, centrifugation, specimen sterility, and transport conditions.
• Ensures positive patient identification and correct specimen collection and handling/transport.
• Performs specimen processing duties including aliquoting and storage; supports automation line.
• Uses sterile techniques in Microbiology for specimen handling and inoculation on culture media.
• Assists with training new hires and students as applicable.
• Follows safety, infection control, and hospital policies; disposes of bio-hazardous materials properly.
