Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Specimen Processor to support a clinical laboratory in Indianapolis, IN. The role blends clerical and technical duties to ensure specimens are received, processed, and prepared accurately for diagnostic testing.

You will handle sample labeling, data entry, and quality checks, while working with centrifuges, pH meters, microscopes, and freezers. Training includes a 1st shift to 2nd shift transition and weekend rotations.

Qualifications

• Comply with regulatory and laboratory requirements.
• Experience in specimen processing and handling for testing.
• Attention to sample identity and integrity throughout workflows.
• Proficiency in data entry and lab information systems with accuracy.
• Ability to proofread for content, spelling and formatting.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment (centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, microscopes).
• Willingness to work weekend/holiday rotations as scheduled.
• Continuing education and competency maintenance as required.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to regulatory and compliance standards during daily tasks.
• Assist audits with documentation and records as needed.
• Ship, receive, and track specimens ensuring sample integrity.
• Receive, classify, and process specimens per established protocols.
• Inspect documentation for accuracy and take action as needed.
• Maintain sample identity and proper temperature control.
• Enter data into LIS and related systems with accuracy.
• Proofread documents before finalizing.
• Prepare specimens for testing and ensure proper labeling.
• Perform reagent preparation per protocol and safety guidelines.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment and perform routine calibration.
• Document sample issues and coordinate with clients to resolve.
