Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Specimen Management Tech at Rochester General Hospital to ensure accurate patient registration, data entry of testing orders and billing information, and proper preparation of samples for testing in the hospital's LIS/HIS systems.

This part-time role (20 hours/week) involves labeling, data entry, and collaboration with floors and physicians to meet specimen requirements, with opportunities to support transport and filing within the Laboratory - Specimen

Qualifications

• Data entry/computer skills required.
• Billing issues knowledge preferred.
• Understanding medical terminology is preferred.
• Enrollment in Medical Technology program for intern role is noted.

Responsibilities

• Performs data entry and labeling of laboratory samples accurately and timely.
• Prepares laboratory samples accurately and timely for laboratory testing.
• May operate imaging system and retrieve requisitions or maintain manual filing for outpatient/inpatient requisitions.
• Maintains knowledge of HIS and LIS systems and navigates common operating systems.
• May perform limited training as requested.
• Communicates with floors and physicians regarding testing, results, sample requirements and labeling issues.
• May transport specimens and prepare paperwork for transfer to other departments or reference labs.
• For Medical Technology Student Intern only: perform simple procedures under supervision.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
