The Planet Group is seeking a Specifications Writer in Orlando, FL, offering a hybrid schedule (in-office Tue–Thu, remote Mon & Fri). This permanent role focuses on developing architectural specifications, coordinating with architects, engineers, and designers, and leading specification quality across projects.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in Architecture or Engineering, 8+ years of experience, and professional credentials such as RA/PE; CCS/CDT and LEED are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
• Licensed Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent credentials.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive specification writing experience in A/E/design environments.
• Strong knowledge of construction documents, materials, and building systems.
• Experience coordinating specifications across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and document management platforms.
• CCS/CDT certifications preferred; LEED accreditation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, edit, and coordinate technical specifications for architectural, engineering, and interior design projects.
• Serve as the specification subject matter expert for project teams.
• Mentor architects and designers in specification development and best practices.
• Review project specs and drawings for accuracy, consistency, and coordination.
• Participate in QA/QC reviews throughout project lifecycles.
• Coordinate specifications with design drawings across all project phases.
• Collaborate with project managers, consultants, architects, and engineers to define requirements and selections.
• Research materials, systems, and methods for inclusion in documents.
• Maintain and improve master specification libraries and workflows.
• Ensure compliance with codes, accessibility, sustainability, and project standards.
• Review manufacturer data and technical documentation for products.
• Stay current on emerging products and best practices.
• Support proposal development, construction docs, and delivery efforts as needed.
• Lead continuous improvement of specification standards and templates.

As a Specifications Writer, you will work closely with architects, engineers, interior designers, and project managers to prepare, coordinate, and maintain project specifications for a diverse portfolio of complex building projects. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, edit, and coordinate technical specifications for architectural, engineering, and interior design projects.
• Act as the organization's specification subject matter expert and resource for project teams.
• Mentor and support architects and designers in specification development and best practices.
• Review project specifications and construction documents for accuracy, consistency, and coordination.

• Lead continuous improvement efforts related to specification standards, templates, and documentation processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
• Licensed Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent combination of specifications experience and industry credentials.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in specification writing within architecture, engineering, design, or construction environments.
• Strong knowledge of construction documents, materials, building systems, and industry standards.
• Experience coordinating specifications across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong client-service orientation and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and industry-standard specification/document management platforms.
• Experience using specification software and construction documentation tools.
• Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certification preferred.
• Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification preferred.
• LEED accreditation is a plus.
• Active involvement with professional organizations such as CSI is a plus.
• Ability to mentor, coach, and influence project teams without direct supervisory responsibility.
