Job summary

Cline Design is seeking an experienced Specification Writer to join our Architecture team in Raleigh or Charlotte. You will develop clear, coordinated specs that carry design intent from concept through construction, collaborating with architects, engineers, and project teams.

The role requires a strong background in building specifications, familiarity with MasterSpec or equivalent, and a proven ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy. Remote coordination across locations is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
• Minimum of five years of experience as an architect, engineer, or construction professional with a focus on specifications, or three years as architectural specifier.
• CSI CDT certification.
• CCS certification.
• Experience with multi-family and mixed-use projects.
• Experience preparing specifications with industry standard tools (Deltek AIA MasterSpec or equivalent).
• Revit experience preferred.
• Strong communication and coordination across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of project manuals and specifications across projects of varying size, budget, building type, and delivery method.
• Serve as the specifications discipline lead, resolving conflicts between drawings and specifications.
• Support projects and contribute to development and maintenance of Cline specification standards.
• Conduct product and systems research to evaluate materials and support specification development.
• Stay current with building codes, material standards, and emerging construction technologies.

For our Specification Writer role, we’re looking for someone who understands that great design is supported by the details. You’ll collaborate with our architects, designers, and project teams to develop clear, coordinated, and technically sound specifications that help carry design intent from concept through construction.

We are seeking an experienced Specification Writer to join our growing team. We are considering qualified candidates for either our Raleigh or Charlotte office.

Day To Day Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of project manuals and technical specifications across projects of varying size, budget, building type, and delivery method, selecting appropriate formats (full, short form, outline, sheet) based on project requirements
• Serve as the specifications discipline lead, identifying and resolving conflicts between drawings and specifications and coordinating solutions across architects and engineers
• Support projects and contribute to the development and maintenance of Cline specification standards and industry best practices across all service sectors
• Conduct product and systems research to evaluate materials, vet construction systems, and support specification development across project teams
• Stay current with building codes, material standards, and emerging construction technologies

What We Look For

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline from an accredited university
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an architect, engineer, or construction professional with a demonstrated focus on specifications, or three (3) years of dedicated experience as an architectural specifier
• CSI Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification
• Strong knowledge of construction specifications, building systems, materials, construction methods, and manufacturer and supplier appropriateness
• CSI Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) certification
• Experience with multi-family and mixed-used projects required
• Experience preparing specifications with industry standard tools (e.g., Deltek AIA MasterSpec or equivalent).
• Revit experience preferred
• Ability to coordinate within a multi-disciplinary team structure – including engaging virtually with team members in different locations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple deadlines, and perform all responsibilities effectively and on time, with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
