Job summary

Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a Specialty Nurse Educator to lead nursing education in pediatric specialty areas. This role requires an RN licensed in California and extensive pediatric clinical experience.

The educator will serve as a clinical expert, mentor, and resource while collaborating with education and management teams to address staff learning needs and promote quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Current California RN license is required.
• BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications assigned on hire (per RQI).
• Minimum five (5) years of acute pediatric clinical experience preferred.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a specified area of pediatric practice.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing clinical education to nurses in the area of specialty.
• Ability to lift thirty (30) pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Overview

The Specialty Nurse Educator is a registered nurse with clinical experience and expertise in a particular area of specialty. The educator provides quality nursing education and training and functions as a clinical expert, role model, mentor, and resource to the clinical team. They collaborate with management, education, and the LIP team to identify and address staff learning needs in a competent and cost-effective manner. The Specialty Nurse Educator reports to the Director of Staff Education and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and cooperates with other clinical educators and members of the patient care team to enhance the clinical preparation and competence of nurses in specialty areas such as pediatric oncology, cardiac, neonatal care, etc., throughout the hospital. The employee is expected to demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values and to support the organization\'s strategic plan, the goals and direction of quality assurance and performance improvement activities.

• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (Assigned on hire – RQI).
• Minimum of five (5) years of acute pediatric clinical experience preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a specified area of nursing practice in pediatrics.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing clinical education to nurses in the particular area of specialty hired to provide.
• Ability to lift thirty (30) pounds without assistance.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge/Skills

• Must possess good work ethics and a professional image at all times.
• Knowledge of CMS conditions of participation, CDPH state regulations, CCS, and TJC (hospital, nursing care center, and laboratory) accreditation requirements as applicable to the job.
