The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, including preparing patients for oral examination and assisting dental professionals in providing treatment.

Specialty Dental Assistants support clinicians within specific areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric dentistry, and may require additional training.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions according to state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Participate actively in PPE, focusing on patient-centered care.
  3. Escort patients, introduce them to team members, and ensure smooth scheduling.
  4. Maintain a clean, sterile environment and adhere to infection control guidelines.
  5. Prepare patients and assist clinicians during procedures, including radiographs and intra-oral pictures.
  6. Prepare tray setups, maintain supplies, and support patient care with proper documentation.
  7. Support patient education on oral health and postoperative care.
  8. Ensure equipment maintenance and participate in team meetings.
  9. Uphold professional appearance and comply with policies and regulations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; required state-specific training and certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between offices.
Preferred
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school or equivalent experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, use basic computer software, and handle confidential patient records.
  • Results-oriented, customer-focused, self-motivated, and organized.
