The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They prepare patients for oral examinations, assist dental professionals, and work effectively with co-workers, patients, and front office staff. A successful dental assistant actively listens, keeps commitments, shares ideas constructively, and addresses problems to find practical solutions.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatric Dentistry, they will primarily support clinicians within that specialty and may require additional training.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform functions according to state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  2. Participate actively in PPE, focusing on patient-centered care and addressing individual needs.
  3. Escort patients and introduce them to team members as appropriate.
  4. Coordinate with front and back office teams to ensure smooth scheduling.
  5. Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines.
  7. Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist to ensure efficient, quality care.
  8. Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures efficiently and timely, as directed.
  9. Prepare tray setups and replenish supplies to ensure efficient patient care.
  10. Keep the patient's mouth dry and clear during procedures.
  11. Instruct patients on oral health care post-treatment.
  12. Record patient charting and clinician notes in the digital system.
  13. Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health history.
  14. Maintain equipment per manufacturer’s guidelines.
  15. Work with Lead Dental Assistant to ensure supplies are available.
  16. Learn and operate technology, providing explanations as needed.
  17. Participate in team meetings and adhere to company culture and standards.
  18. Implement the Perfect Patient Experience process to foster Patient for Life.
  19. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor, addressing others respectfully.
  20. Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, with required state training/certification.
  • Valid licenses/registrations as mandated by state.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance, or reliable transportation for travel between offices.
Preferred
  • One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, and reliable.
  • Ability to handle confidential patient records.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation: $25.25-$35.25/hourly
