Job summary

Harbor Health in Austin, TX seeks a part-time Specialty Clinical Pharmacist for our Park Bend practice and infusion clinic. The role requires on-site presence five days a week for four hours daily, focusing on infusion operations, medication access, and payvider strategies to improve biosimilar adoption and reduce costs.

You will embed with primary care and specialty teams to optimize regimens, manage prior authorizations, educate patients on therapies, and support revenue-cycle initiatives

Qualifications

• PharmD or RPh with clinical experience.
• Active, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Experience with electronic health records systems.

Responsibilities

• Infusion Operations & Clinical Oversight: Review orders, ensure safety and accuracy; monitor efficacy and safety of therapies; prep medications for infusion; maintain USP <797> compliance; act as clinical lead for infusion clinic; ensure emergency readiness; manage drug inventory and procurement; improve infusion reimbursement with RCM.
• Multi-Specialty Clinic & Medication Access: Embed with care teams to optimize regimens; improve prior authorization workflows; provide patient education on therapies; coordinate financial assistance to access high-cost therapies.
• Cross-Functional Strategy & Payvider Initiatives: Collaborate on P&T committee; analyze drug spend; lead cost-reduction projects including biosimilar protocols; participate in organizational initiatives and quality reviews.
• Physical Requirements: ability to handle exposure to biohazards; lift up to 50 pounds; dexterity for sterile supplies.

This is a Part Time role based in Austin, TX

POSITION OVERVIEW

Harbor Health is seeking a team-oriented Specialty Clinical Pharmacist to join our multi-specialty clinic group in Austin at our Park Bend practice and infusion clinic. As a Specialty Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide safe clinical decision-making, expert care, and cost-containment strategies within our integrated payvider model. This part-time role requires being on-site five days a week for four hours each day. You will split your time across managing infusion clinic operations, embedding with multi-specialty teams to ensure medication access, and driving payvider strategies like biosimilar adoption and P&T sub-committee leadership.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Infusion Operations & Clinical Oversight (40%)

• Review, enter, and verify medication orders for safety and accuracy.
• Assess clinical data to monitor the efficacy and safety of prescribed specialty therapies.
• Prepare medications for scheduled infusion or injection treatments when applicable.
• Oversee infusion clinic compliance with USP <797> provisions and other regulatory requirements including completion of medication storage temperature checks.
• Act as clinical lead for the infusion clinic overseeing nursing competency and maintenance of all clinical protocols, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure emergency preparedness by maintaining fully stocked emergency medication boxes and supporting RNs during adverse infusion reactions.
• Manage drug inventory, placing orders with GPOs and distributors, and partner with the RCM team to improve infusion reimbursement rates and reconcile drug administration billing.

Multi-Specialty Clinic & Medication Access (40%)

• Embed with primary care, cardiology, rheumatology, endocrinology, memory care, behavioral health, and care management teams to optimize medication regimens.
• Improve prior authorization and step-therapy workflows for specialty medications to reduce prior authorization turnaround times and patient time to start treatment.
• Provide high-touch patient education on specialty therapies, side-effect management, and medication adherence to improve clinical outcomes.
• Collaborate with medication access teams to coordinate patient financial assistance to remove barriers to high-cost specialty therapies.

Cross-Functional Strategy & Payvider Initiatives (20%)

• Partner with the VP of Pharmacy Operations on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee and establish enterprise-wide specialty guidelines and policies.
• Analyze drug spend and prescription data against budget targets to implement additional projects to reduce total cost of care related to specialty medications.
• Lead cost-reduction projects related to specialty spend, including proactive biosimilar conversion protocols and site-of-care redirection.
• Contribute to organizational initiatives, including participation on clinical committees, providing education, quality review, and other mission-aligned activities.

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Required

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) or R.Ph with relevant clinical experience.
• Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Texas.
• Current CPR certification.
• Computer literacy with ability to navigate electronic health record systems.
• Excellent clinical, customer service, and professional communication skills with a proven ability to function independently within a team setting.

Preferred

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in an infusion and/or specialty pharmacy setting.
• PGY1 (or equivalent experience).
• Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP), Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP), or Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).
• Strong working knowledge of USP <797> compliance and specialty revenue cycle management.

Physical Requirements

• Capacity to handle exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases.
• Ability to push/pull heavy objects and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate sterile supplies, needles, and vials.
