Job summary

Sentara Health is seeking a Specialty Clinical Pharmacist for the Case Management team at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Shifts are rotating with 40 hours per week, including occasional Saturdays. The role focuses on managing high-level pharmacotherapy, ensuring safety, and providing expert drug information.

Required is a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Virginia license; a Doctorate is preferred. BLS is required; ACLS is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
  • Doctorate in Pharmacy preferred.
  • Virginia Pharmacist License required.
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to work independently in pharmacy practice areas.
  • Manages patient drug therapy according to clinical standards.
  • Ensures appropriateness of provider medication orders for patient safety.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and disease states.
  • Provides drug information and education to staff and patients.
  • Counsels patients when required and mentors new staff.
  • Assists in training and onboarding as assigned.
  • Maintains compliance with policies and quality assurance.

Overview

Sentara is hiring a Specialty Clinical Pharmacist for our Case Management team at Norfolk General Hospital.

Location & Shift

City/State: Norfolk, VA

Work Shift: Rotating

Status: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

Shift: Rotating Days shift

Hours: 8am-4:30pm / 8:30am-5pm / 9:30am-6pm

Occasional Saturdays

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in areas of pharmacy practice competently and independently
  • Manages patient drug therapy in accordance with applicable clinical practice standards
  • Assures the appropriateness of all provider medication orders in maintaining a high level of patient care and safety
  • Maintains current knowledge of medication use and disease states applicable to their area of practice
  • Serves as the primary resource for drug information and education
  • Provides in-depth patient counseling when required
  • Participates in the training of new employees as assigned
  • Assumes local responsibility and ownership for assigned tasks
  • Consistently follows policies and procedures
  • Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stays abreast of new and changing information for assigned areas
  • Demonstrates superior customer service, effective communication, decision‑making, and organization to ensure efficient job performance and success
  • Serves as a role model in the following areas: professionalism, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the scope of practice as needed
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
  • Precepts pharmacy students as assigned
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Education
  • Bachelors Level Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
  • Doctorate Level Degree in Pharmacy (Preferred)
Certification/Licensure
  • Virginia Pharmacist License (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)
Experience
  • Previous Clinical Experience Preferred
  • Drug Counseling Experience
  • Knowledge of Specialty Medications

We provide market‑competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full‑time employment is $148,304.00 - $214,926.40 annually. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on‑call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs. Note: If an annual salary is posted, it is based on a full‑time colleague working 2,080 hours annually.
