Job summary

Job Details: Job Location: Klickitat Valley Health - GOLDENDALE, WA, Position Type: Casual, Salary Range: $19.60 - $23.90Hourly, Job Shift: Days 8 hr Shift, GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Specialty Clinic Assistant I is responsible for supporting both the clinical and non-clinical functions of the Specialty Outpatient Clinic. The Assistant schedules clinic visits and surgical procedures with providers who represent a variety of medical specialties and ensures the appropriate paperwork and authorizations are obtained from insurance providers for such services prior to treatment. The Assistant coordinates patient flow and assists the provider as a Medical Assistant during clinic visits as defined by the Standards and Scope of Practice for the Medical Assistant (RCW 18.360.050). The Assistant works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal outcomes for our patients.

Qualifications: Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):

Education / Licensure:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Medical Assistant Registered required
• Must be able to obtain certification within one year of hire
• BLS required

Experience:

• One-year experience as a Medical Assistant preferred but not required
• Experience with front-office clinic duties including insurance authorization is also strongly preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

• Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to the age of the patients served in the hospital and surgical services department
• Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development and provide service according to the identified age specific needs
• Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards
• Assists provider or nurse with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks
• Prepares exam room and maintains adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies necessary for treatment
• Coordinates patient flow by rooming and preparing the patient for the provider assessment
• Administers medications under the direct supervision of a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner (as per site operations) within the scope of practice of a Registered Medical Assistant
• Observes, records and reports (to provider) patient's condition and reaction to drugs and/or treatments
• Instructs patient/family regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and health/wellness issues utilizing available resources
• Assists physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner with exams and procedures including suture removal, wound care, cast application, and other procedures within the scope of practice for a Registered Medical Assistant
• Accurately documents patient history, vital signs, immunizations and allergies in the patient record
• Responsible for scheduling clinic appointments and surgical procedures
• Ensures prior authorization has been obtained from insurance company prior to treatment
• Tracks and routes test results to provider(s) for review, and communicates test results to patients when deemed appropriate by provider
• Processes orders appropriately and accurately
• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures
• Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition
• Monitors and cleans patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment
• Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of patient's records, locating and compiling charts, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposes
• Promotes accuracy and attention to detail in all paperwork completed
• Provides patients with educational materials as directed
• Prepares set up for sterile procedures
• Obtains vital signs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
