Job summary

Great American Insurance Group in Cincinnati is seeking a SHS Claim Intern for a 10-week summer internship. This role offers exposure to the Specialty Human Services division, with insight into claims handling, analysis, investigation, and negotiation.

The internship provides hands-on experience across claims systems and databases, plus seminars with Claims College and Great American University.

Qualifications

• 3.5 GPA preferred, 3.0 minimum.
• Proven leadership through work experience, campus involvement, or extracurriculars.
• Superior communication, analysis, planning, and organizing skills.
• Self-motivated with potential virtual aspects or self-directed projects.
• Open to current bachelor’s degree students, especially Insurance & Risk Management majors.
• Attention to detail with spreadsheets, database management, and IT platforms.

Responsibilities

• Participating in special projects within the claims and operations groups as assigned.
• Learning about claim handling assignments within SHS including initial coverage analysis, first contact, investigation, resolution strategy, technical letter writing, and negotiation.
• Working with the operations team to enter new loss information, update the litigation database, and perform other operations team functions.
• Learning and using the various claims systems, programs, and databases.
• Reading assignments, self-study courses, and case studies to build a foundation of claims and general insurance knowledge.
• Participating in seminars and workshops provided by Claims College and Great American University.
