Cake Decorator

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Accurately record customers’ orders/requests for cakes and bakery items
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales
• Review the perishable department Communication Board daily for updates and follow posted guidelines for sampling and announcements
• Ice and decorate cakes and pastries according to customer and company specifications
• Record out-of-stock conditions and report to the department manager
• Stock display cases and counters throughout the store

Supervision

The Cake Decorator reports directly to the Bakery Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic Mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Prior supervisory experience
• Experience with oven, convection oven, mixer, fryer, bread slicer, stove, wrapper, scales, and cleaning materials

Specific Tasks

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain signage and pricing in departmental areas
• Care for signs, banners, and debris
• Handle cash, debit/credit, EBT/WIC, coupons, and vouchers accurately
• Respond promptly and politely to questions from customers, coworkers, and vendors
• Use store phone and intercom systems properly
• Check case and cooler temperatures four times daily and record each check

Work Environment

Inside work with transitions of heat, cold, humidity, and dust from backdoor, compressors, coolers, freezers, and preparation areas.
