Job summary

Placements24 is looking for a Specialized Vehicle Technician for our Upington workshop to diagnose, maintain and repair a diverse fleet including trucks, heavy equipment and custom units. You will use diagnostic tools and follow manufacturer specs to keep vehicles safe and reliable.

The ideal candidate has a diesel or automotive trade qualification with 5+ years of experience, proficiency with diagnostic software, and strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.

About the Role

Our client, a leading fleet maintenance and repair service provider, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialized Vehicle Technician to join their dynamic workshop in Upington, Northern Cape . This role focuses on the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a diverse fleet of specialized vehicles, including trucks, heavy-duty equipment, and potentially custom-built transport units. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, comprehensive knowledge of vehicle systems, and proven experience with diagnostic tools and equipment. You will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of our client's fleet, which serves various industries across the region. Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of specialized vehicles.
• Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
• Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and report findings and recommended repairs.
• Execute repairs accurately and efficiently, adhering to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
• Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, braking, suspension, and electrical systems.
• Order and manage spare parts inventory as needed.
• Stay updated on the latest automotive technologies and repair techniques for specialized vehicles.

Requirements

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Technician, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in diagnosing and repairing specialized vehicles, trucks, or heavy equipment.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software and electronic testing equipment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license; Code 10 or higher preferred.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience working within the Upington, Northern Cape region is a plus.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and refrigeration units is advantageous.
