Job Description Summary

As a Specialist, you'll accept, retain, and price complex, moderate to high exposure new, renewal, and endorsement commercial business policies based on granted authority. You will provide technical direction and mentorship to underwriting staff, research underwriting projects, and may serve as a team lead.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Gather information from multiple sources to perform underwriting analysis, supporting unit objectives and participating in committees or projects.
  2. Review risks for acceptability, handle those within authority, analyze risks, and prepare reports. Review agency books of business and trends to recommend actions.
  3. Lead larger, complex projects, manage referral underwriting, ensure file quality, and assist in managing work inventories.
  4. Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements, using various variables and relationships, and assist in audits.
  5. Plan and complete assignments within timelines, providing operational feedback.
  6. Identify business development opportunities, consult with agents, and advise on complex underwriting issues.
  7. Communicate effectively with agents and internal partners, strengthening relationships and promoting growth.
  8. Respond to requests efficiently, handle advanced underwriting issues, and educate partners on underwriting processes and tools.
  9. May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Details

Reporting to a Supervisor or Manager, typically without direct reports. Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, completion of INS, AU, or similar designations (CIC, CPCU preferred), and approximately six years of relevant experience. Knowledge of commercial underwriting, insurance laws, and systems is essential. Leadership skills and other competencies may be prioritized.

Work conditions include a normal office environment, occasional travel, and extended hours as needed. The position is exempt from overtime eligibility.

Compensation

The salary range is $70,000 to $145,500, with an expected starting range of $78,000 to $117,000, based on various factors including skills and experience.
