Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field required.
  • Valid NC Teaching license required.
  • Minimum of five years' successful content-area teaching experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

General Definition of Work

The teacher leader pathways instructional specialist, under moderate supervision, performs instructional programs support work with limited decision-making discretion developing and maintaining programs for aspiring and in-program teacher leaders. Position collaborates with teachers, curriculum leaders, and principals to provide development and growth through job-embedded professional learning. Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Teacher Leader Pathways Manager.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Collaborate with management, school leadership, central office, and school-based administration to implement teacher leader roles in accordance with local and state policy for advanced teaching roles
  • Assist with the TLP talent pool process for teacher leader roles and grant writing
  • Coach and build teacher leader capacity to meet district goals
  • Support recruitment and retention of teacher leaders through advertising and marketing
  • Support retention of all teachers through developing and implementing proven coaching models and guidelines for teacher leaders
  • Use student achievement and performance data to refine schools' retention and development plans through consultation with the school principal
  • Review and analyze hiring, performance and retention data associated with teacher leader roles to ensure program success
  • Analyze school data to determine professional development needs and develop teacher leader programs to provide differentiated support to schools
  • Guide central office and school leadership in assessing effectiveness of teacher leader roles in schools
  • Help teacher leaders transfer learning experiences into practice
  • Coordinate the implementation of professional development plans to support teacher leader roles across the district
  • Design, implement, facilitate, refine, and evaluate professional development for teacher leaders
  • Provide professional development resources to help school-based administrators achieve specific goals
  • Support individuals and groups in determining the course of action that is aligned to objectives of each school's improvement plan
  • Design and implement processes for teacher leaders to improve practices
  • Build instructional leadership capacity in teacher leaders through differentiated and job-embedded learning activities
  • Promote flexible scheduling and integration of technology in instructional strategies that foster high quality teaching and learning
  • Facilitate professional development and attend other related meetings as needed/required
  • Participate in professional development workshops and training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication
  • Perform related work as assigned or required
