Description: The Senior Hunger Strategies department includes the Senior Brown Bag (SBB) program and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). SBB is a monthly direct distribution program. The main goal of this program is to provide supplemental groceries for seniors in need by distributing nutritious food to approved community sites. CSFP is a USDA program that provides a monthly package of healthy groceries and complementary nutrition education to seniors at risk of hunger. CSFP currently operates in Washington, DC as Grocery Plus, in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, MD as My Groceries To Go, and in Northern Virginia. In DC, it is combined with another USDA program, the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), which provides seasonal electronic benefits for participants to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey at participating farmers markets. The Capital Area Food Bank is the executor of both programs for DC, with oversight by DC Health.

CSFP collectively serves 7,136 seniors in DC, MD, and VA. The SHS Specialist, DC Region is responsible for managing the caseload for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program in the DC region. This will include tracking participation and assisting the CSFP team in reaching 100% caseload each month, ensuring quality and consistency are maintained across the program, tracking billing, and monitoring sites to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and policies. This position will also act as the program lead for the DC Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), representing CAFB and working collaboratively with partners DC Health and FRESHFARM. The position will also act as team lead for all CSFP and joint SHS site leader trainings.

Essential Functions:

CSFP Caseload Management and Participation

• Supports and promotes the mission of the Capital Area Food Bank and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program
• Manages current participant caseload for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program in DC region.
• Submits weekly participation reports and additional reports upon request
• Creates monthly rosters for all CSFP DC distributions
• Generates sales orders for all CSFP DC distributions.
• Works with the Sr. Manager to make routine caseload adjustments
• Performs regular audits of NetSuite and Link2Feed participation data to ensure accuracy and addresses discrepancies with the team
• Collaborates with Sr. Manager on continuous improvement to caseload management and increasing participation.

CSFP Administration and Training

• Leads CSFP team with annual enrollment and recertification activities for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program in all regions and ensures compliance is maintained
• Leads CSFP team with annual site monitoring requirements, ensuring site visits are completed, sites maintain compliance, reports findings, and executes appropriate action plans.
• Creates program and resource guides in coordination with DC Health and other community partners.
• Acts as CSFP team lead for joint SHS annual site leader training, Link2Feed site leader training, Recertification Training, and additional trainings as needed.
• Facilitates bi-weekly CSFP team meetings
• Creates bi-monthly CSFP client newsletter for DC region
• Assists Sr. Manager with ensuring nutrition education plans and goals are met in DC region
• Creates monthly site leader letters for DC region
• Assists with the submission of various reports as necessary, including the annual FNS-191.

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

• Acts as team lead, representing CAFB for the DC Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) season
• Collaborates with joint partners DC Health and FRESHFARM
• Submits all CAFB regulatory reporting to DC Health and FRESHFARM
• Communicates all program information internally to CAFB teams and externally to site leaders and participants
• Provides annual training for site leaders and facilitates office hours as needed
• Trains CAFB staff on all relevant program information and provides resource guides as needed
• Ensures Produce Pass cards and materials are distributed at all CSFP DC sites
• Track and monitor card activation rates at each CSFP DC site and work with external and internal stakeholders to ensure action plans are in place for low-performing sites
• Facilitates regular internal debrief meetings with the CSFP team and management
• Coordinates any additional program compliance requirements, including site monitoring, surveying participants, and site leaders

QualificationsRequirements:

• BA/BS in a related field or AA degree with 2-3 years of related experience.
• 2-3 years of customer service experience
• Experience working in an office environment and in a community setting
• Ability to navigate the DC area in a car and be comfortable traveling to underserved communities

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Highly organized and efficient, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• A self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience using databases and software systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, Word, Etc.
• Exhibits creative approaches to meeting challenges.
• Highly flexible and adaptable, comfortable in changing and collaborative environments
• High comfort level in working with high needs populations. Experience working with the senior population (aged 60 and over)

Other Skills, Abilities:

• Commitment to the CAFB’s mission and team values
• Project management experience or PMP certification
• Experience in a direct service setting
• Spanish fluency preferred

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
• Required to speak and listen effectively, both in person and over the phone.

Compensation

$27.28 - $33.35 an hour

Schedule:

Hybrid schedule available

Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm; with weekends or extended hours for special events
