Job summary

LyondellBasell Industries, Channelview, TX, seeks a Process Control Specialist to support DCS regulatory controls, APC, and alarm management within the assigned unit. You will collaborate with operations and engineers to resolve control system issues and drive safe, efficient process performance.

Responsibilities include maintaining IP21 configurations, leading alarm rationalization, mentoring junior staff, and supporting FAT/SAT tests and plant turnarounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Typically 20 years of industry experience in a control systems or automation engineering role.
• Practical experience with configuration and programming of DCS such as Emerson DeltaV or Honeywell TPS/Experion.
• Practical experience with configuration and programming of SIS such as Triconex or Honeywell.
• Ability to plan and lead small teams within installation, maintenance, troubleshooting or upgrades of process control systems.
• Experience leading, coaching, mentoring or developing less experienced employees.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary liaison between Operations and Process Control, coordinating with engineers, hardware specialists and technologists to resolve control system issues.
• Monitor KPIs related to alarm management, APC and loop performance; address issues and escalate when needed.
• Provide technical expertise and training on control system modifications and advanced control applications.
• Support APC utilization through performance monitoring and operational engagement.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system faults including loop tuning and diagnostics.
• Maintain control system configurations, graphics and IP21 tag setups; ensure MOC compliance.
• Administer the master alarm database using Plant State Suite and lead alarm rationalization.
• Monitor DCS health and contribute to lifecycle planning, obsolescence and long-range strategy.
• Participate in FAT/SAT to validate control system deliverables.
• Provide technical support during unit turnarounds, startups and site projects.
• Lead and execute control-related scopes within capital and expense projects.
• Collaborate with Operations to meet site goals and ensure safe, compliant execution of control strategies aligned with GoalZero.
• Lead MOC evaluations and complete assigned Intelex action items.
• Support Process Safety Management activities including Alarm Management, PHA, MOC, Safety Critical Equipment/Variables, Incident Investigations and SSD processes.
• Conduct OE self-assessments and process safety audits.

TheProcessControlSpecialisthasprimaryresponsibility for supportingthe DCS regulatory controls, advanced control applications, DCS graphics, plantmaster alarm database, and Aspen IP21 tag maintenance within their assigned operating unit.

A Day in the Life

Act as the primary liaison between Operations and Process Control, coordinating with engineers, hardware specialists, and technologists to resolve control system issues.

Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to alarm management, advanced process control (APC), and loop performance; proactively address issues and elevate when necessary.

Provide technical expertise and training on control system modifications and advanced control applications.

Support APC utilization through performance monitoring and operational engagement.

Troubleshoot and resolve control system faults, including loop tuning and diagnostics.

Maintain control system configurations, graphics, and Aspen IP21 tag setups, ensuring compliance with Management of Change (MOC) procedures.

Administer the master alarm database using Plant State Suite (PSS) and lead alarm rationalization efforts.

Monitor Distributed Control System (DCS) health and contribute to lifecycle planning, including obsolescence and long-range strategy development.

Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to validate control system deliverables.

Provide technical support during unit turnarounds, startups, and facility siting projects.

Lead and execute control-related scopes within capital and expense projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.

Collaborate with Operations to meet site performance goals and ensure safe, compliant execution of control strategies aligned with Channelview's GoalZero objectives.

Lead MOC evaluations and complete assigned action items in Intelex per procedural requirements.

Support Process Safety Management (PSM) activities including Alarm Management, PHA, MOC, Safety Critical Equipment/Variables, Incident Investigations, and SSD processes.

Conduct OE self-assessments, process safety audits, and elevate HSE concerns appropriately.

You Bring This Value

Typically 20 years of industry experience in a control systems or automation engineering role

Practical experience with configuration and programming of distributed control systems (DCS), such as Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell TPS/Experion, or similar platforms

Practical experience with configuration and programming of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), such as Triconex, Honeywell, or similar platforms

Ability to plan and lead small teams, engaged in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or upgrade of process control systems

Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, or developing less experienced employees

Proven ability to analyze and solve complex problems by evaluating alternatives and selecting effective solutions based on technical expertise and professional judgment

Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, facilitate productive dialogue, and provide and receive constructive feedback.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities

Ability to identify opportunities for process, product, or service improvements and develop recommendations that support business objectives

Preferred:

Experience with advanced process control (APC) applications, such as AspenTech DMC

Skilled in loop tuning and control performance optimization

Experience using alarm management tools and software for rationalization and performance tracking
