Job summary

Vail Resorts' Northstar Competition Services Department is hiring a seasonal Timing and Calculations staff member for winter 2026/27. You’ll manage timing equipment and processes, set up event venues, and support race operations across alpine venues.

The role requires physical ability, a valid U.S. driver’s license, and availability on weekends, evenings and holidays. Competitive pay up to $32.14/hr, plus discounts and training opportunities. Housing is not provided.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs+ as needed.
  • Proficiency with timing equipment and event tech.
  • Ability to operate power tools and handle setup tasks.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
  • Fluent reading/writing/speaking English.

Northstar Competition Services Department is seeking a qualified U.S. Ski and Snowboard Timing and Calculations staff member. This is a seasonal role for both winter and summer operations; the ideal candidate will work both seasons. The Competition Service Specialist performs complex/skilled tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of race venues and events, with your primary role being responsible for all timing equipment and processes. Responsibilities may include advanced course setting for skiing and mountain biking, skilled labor maintenance of race venue, light carpentry, and hill clean up.

Job Specifications:
  • Starting Wage: $22.50/hr - $32.14/hr
  • Employment Type: Winter Seasonal 2026/2027
  • Shift Type: Full Time hours available
  • Minimum Age: At least 18 years of age

Job Responsibilities:
  • To continually strive to exceed our guest’s expectations
  • Expected to be up to date with all event information and act as resort ambassador
  • Event venue set up - Includes but is not limited to installing fences, tents, banners, timing wire, closures, etc.
  • Responsible use and proper daily storage of timing equipment, fencing, banners, shovels, and other event materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safe access to our different equipment storage areas
  • Assisting in the transportation of event equipment
  • Responsible for mountain radio and drill/batteries/drill bit, issued at the start of the season.
  • Ensure all competitions are executed to meet the needs of the rider's security and event criteria
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to, and sometimes more than, 50lbs - required.
  • Ability to work with power tools (cordless drills, etc.) - required.
  • Ability to safely operate authorized vehicles - required.
  • Ability to multi task and focus on details as they pertain to competitions: required
  • Ability to perform in highly active environment
  • Valid U.S. Driver's license - required.
  • High school diploma - required.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English - required.
  • Strong computer skills which includes homologated timing equipment, excel and Microsoft software
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays - required.
  • Race course Officials license – Required
  • Timing and Calculations USSS official’s license - Required

The expected pay range is $22.50/hr - $32.14/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
