Specialist: Behavioral Intervention
Job Summary
Assists the principal in the management of student behavior.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Helps develop, implement and maintain a school-wide discipline plan.
- Provides staff development to staff members on effective classroom management/behavior intervention strategies.
- Provides training on behavior management to parents and students.
- Observes students in their classrooms and other activities to gain a better understanding of the students and their behavior.
- Counsels students individually or in small groups on positive behavior techniques.
- Consults with school staff members to develop appropriate behavior intervention plans for individual students.
- Facilitates conferences with students, parents and staff in matters related to student behavior.
- Monitors student behavior data and prepares necessary reports.
- Serves on school teams as determined by the school principal.
- Keeps current on effective behavior management programs and strategies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- One (1) year exemplary teaching experience or related experience required.

- Demonstrated skills and the ability to participate as an effective, contributing member of a school team.
- Excellent communication and human relations skills to relate effectively with challenging students, parents and professional colleagues.
- Knowledge of strategies and techniques for de-escalating verbally aggressive students.
- Experience working with a diverse student/community population.
- Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred.
